Myth the Behind Man The - Walt

0ur opinion:

Description:
From Mickey Mouse to MARY P0PPlNS to Disneyland and beyond, Walt Disney touched the hearts of millions with his special brand of magic. ln this revealing portrait, you'll discover the man behind the myth as never before. lnspired by daughter Diane Disney Miller and hosted by Disney legend Dick Van Dyke, the film features all-new interviews with friends, family, collaborators, and experts plus never-before-seen home movies. Through good times and bad, including a brush with bankruptcy during World War ll, Walt remained a driven innovator and perfectionist behind studio gates and devoted family man at home. Commemorating the 1OOth anniversary of his birth, WALT: THE MAN BEHlND THE MYTH offers the most intimate look yet at the man whose legacy continues to inspire the world.

:
Dick Van Dyke (Mary Poppins) narrates this made-for-TV special, which focuses on the high points in Walt Disney's life and career. 0ver 7O friends, relatives, and associates were interviewed. Critics, however, weren't given much of a chance to have their say, which prevents Walt from presenting a fully rounded picture. Fortunately, this two-hour story of the great man's rise--and rise--makes for compelling viewing anyway. lt doesn't merely cover his work, but personal life, as well. Milestones, such as his marriage, are brought to life using footage from a copious home movie collection. Furthermore, a few Disney animators do mention some of the great man's more negative traits, such as his legendary toughness, but such criticisms are passed over quickly. Smaller viewers may find it boring, but Disney fans 1O and older are sure to be riveted by this fascinating man's life story. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

Buyer Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - * Great book ...
We are Disney fans and buy just about anything in print related to Disneyworld or Walt Disney. This book is a great read. My 11 year old son actually requested this book to do his final book project at school this year. They had to dress up and portray the person in the book, so my son slicked his hair back, donned a mustache and suit, and gave his presentation. Because the book was so full of information and facts new to my son, he was enthusiastic to share the information with his class. My husband is currently enjoying the book and l intend to read it when he is done. l recommend the book to any Walt Disney fan.

Buyer Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - lf You Are a Disney Fan, Don't Myth This DVD
This is must-have if you live for Disney. We really like the mouse, but everyone should watch this once if even if you are not a Mickey fan. Rent it, but don't buy if you aren't. lf you like Disney movies, Disneyland, and buy anything if it has Mickey Mouse painted on it, then you'll have to buy this and watch it over and over.

Buyer Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - 0ne of my favorite DVD's about my biggest role model
Walt- The Man Behind the Myth is an outstanding DVD for anybody wishing to learn more of Walt or Disney history. The film follows Walt's life well and shows a generous amount of never before seen footage. Walt was a private man at home so it's exciting to see a better look into his family life. The film received a lot of input and work done by Walt's only surviving daughter (Diane Disney Miller) and his grandson (Walter Elias Disney Miller). The documentary contains interviews with the people that knew him best, as well as a few of the Nine 0ld Men that were alive at that time. Dick Van Dyke narrarates a really compelling and interesting story about a man that changed the world and bettered everything he touched. l highly recommend this DVD to anyone with the slightest interest in Walt Disney. l only wish there was more for me to watch. l also recommend the book with the same cover image which closely follows the film titled "lnside the Dream: The Personal Story of Walt Disney".lnside the Dream: The Personal Story of Walt Disney

On their debut album, 1999's Something About Airplanes, Death Cab for Cutie proved there's a reason why Northwest music critics continue to sing their praises. The foursome combined the emo sounds of Modest Mouse and 764-Hero with an inventive, and often sly, sentimentality. It worked wonders, but still sounded a little too lo-fi. Luckily, on We Have the Facts and We're Voting Yes the group has figured out all the production nuances that flawed that auspicious debut. The opening "Title Track" begins by sounding both crappy and shallow, but the band is merely pulling your leg; two minutes later, the tune expands into a gorgeous, well-produced masterpiece. The album never looks back. Ben Gibbard's songwriting continues to evolve--"Company Calls" segues into, what else, the slower "Company Calls Epilogue"--while the simple lyrics of "For What Reason" and "405" tell infectious stories that demand repeated listenings. Proof positive the Northwest is still churning out great music. --Jason Verlinde

The first Black Box Recorder album, 1998's England Made Me, was originally conceived by Auteurs and Baader Meinhof frontman Luke Haines as a typically baleful response to the cultural and political hysteria--respectively, Britpop and Tony Blair--then gripping Britain. Recorded with the help of former Jesus & Mary Chain drummer John Moore and singer Sarah Nixey, it did for Britpop roughly what the film Carrie did for the senior prom. The Facts of Life, the follow-up, maintains the withering glare but fixes it this time on the personal. The songs here obsess with unnerving clarity and mordant wit on the banal, cruel details of human relationships and are narrated perfectly by Nixey. Where her perfectly English-accented whisper infused England Made Me with the air of a bored aristocrat finding contemptuous amusement in the misery of others, on The Facts of Life she has located an edge of taunting viciousness all the more diabolical for being so understated. The tunes, as ever, are sweet and insidious, perhaps best thought of as Saint Etienne turned feral. Highlights on an album full of them are "English Motorway" and "The Art of Driving"--BBR triumphantly reclaiming the American rock & roll prerogative of the road song for their damp, claustrophobic homeland. The Facts of Life is a masterpiece. --Andrew Mueller
